What the technology actually is
Power-quality metering captures voltage, current, frequency, power factor, harmonics and events with known accuracy and time alignment. A monthly bill or slow dashboard cannot reveal the milliseconds that trip a drive or the seconds that start a compressor.
Select measurement points, intervals, event capture, accuracy, time synchronization, storage, export formats and evidence custody for a defensible baseline.

Where it can create value
Temporary instruments can diagnose an incident; permanent metering can support baselines, alarms, M&V and control. The location and sampling method should follow the question—utility boundary, transformer, feeder, motor or inverter interface.
- A utility bill cannot reveal the short events and operating combinations that determine solar, BESS or power-quality value.
- The decision crosses operating, electrical, commercial or regulatory boundaries.
- Management needs a defensible next step before committing capital.

What commonly breaks the business case
Wrong CT ratio or orientation, unsynchronized clocks, aggregated phases and missing waveform capture can create precise-looking but unusable data. A meter class does not prove that the installation and data pipeline preserve that accuracy.
